Serietekets filmklubb: Knut Larsson presenterar

"Serietekets filmklubb: Knut Larsson presenterar
Hypnagogia & Dance Of The Vampires
tisdag 27 oktober 2015 18:30 - 21:00

Singoalla

"That' s it!"
It was in 1992 at National Museum in Stockholm when I, for the first time, saw Carl Larsson's illustrations to Singoalla. Carl Larsson, who's better known for portraying his ideal home in bright colors, had in 25 illustrations to Victor Rydberg's novel created a much darker world. The drawings were done in an ink-wash with tiny highlights in white. Seeing these drawings was a big revelation for me since they had the mood and technique I was looking for. I went straight home and did an ink-wash. And I have worked pretty much in the same style ever since. These drawings are now shown at Konstmuseet in Göteborg until sunday.

HANS ARNOLD R.I.P.

Me and Hans Arnold.

I met Hans Arnold twice. Both times it was together with the publishers from Sanatorium. I remember we all had lunch and then went up to his penthouse studio in the old town in Stockholm. It was raining that day and you heard the rain hit the tin roof as he sat at his drawing table signing some books. When I was a kid I could sit for hours and watch his pictures. Especially the cover illustration for ABBAs Greatest Hits made a lasting impression on me. That day in his studion we didn't really talk much but he seemed like a very kind man.

DAVID LYNCH IN TOWN

Catching the Big Fish signed by David Lynch.

This weekend David Lynch was in Stockholm to talk about the benefits of meditation. Back in 2003 I had the great pleasure of meeting him when he was here to receive the Stockholm Film Festival Prize. We, a chosen few, had wine & cheese in his hotel suite and the day after we met for coffee. This time it was more short and sweet. But still we had time for a warm handshake. I gave David my book Kolonialsjukhuset (Colonial Hospital) and he signed my copy of Catching the Big Fish. BANZAI!!!

Hedgehog in the Fog

When I was a kid there wasn't much animated films on TV. Only at the movie theatre you could catch Disney films. But sometimes there was animations on the children's program. Often those films came from eastern europe or Russia. This russian film by Yuri Norstein is one of my favorites. Though I'm not sure I saw it when I was a kid.
